چکیده

Resumo Synovial chondromatosis is a benign condition characterized by synovial proliferation and metaplasia, with development of cartilaginous or osteocartilaginous nodules within a joint, bursa or tendon sheath. In the shoulder, synovial osteochondromatosis may occur within the glenohumeral joint and its recesses (including the tendon sheath of the biceps long head), and in the subacromial-deltoid bursa. Such condition can be identified either by radiography, ultrasonography or magnetic resonance imaging, showing typical features according to each method. Radiography commonly shows ring-shaped calcified cartilages and periarticular soft tissues swelling with erosion of joint margins. Ultrasonography demonstrates hypoechogenic cartilaginous nodules with progressive increase in echogenicity as they become calcified, with development of posterior acoustic shadow in case of ossification. Besides identifying cartilaginous nodules, magnetic resonance imaging can also demonstrate the degree of synovial proliferation. The present study is aimed at describing the imaging findings of this entity in the shoulder.

Arthroscopic treatment of synovial chondromatosis of the shoulder joint: case report and review

Abstract Two cases (20 and 15 years old) of shoulder joint synovial chondromatosis were initially treated with arthroscopic debridement. One was further treated with a second arthroscopy and partial synovectomy (case 1) the second was fully treated by arthroscopic surgery (case 2). The postoperative control X- ray revealed no loose body and the joint was normal. One of the cases (case 1) was a...

Arthroscopic Treatment of Synovial Chondromatosis, an Unusual Cause of Shoulder Pain Tratamiento artroscópico de la condromatosis sinovial, una inusual causa de omalgia

Synovial chondromatosis is a benign idiopathic metaplasia of the synovial membrane. It affects one in 100000 persons. It is 3 times more common in males, arising between 30 and 50 years of age and mainly affects large joints such as the knees (70%), hips (20%) and shoulders (19%). Its etiology is unknown, although it has been associated with chromosomal mutations (p21.3 and 12q13) that affect p...

Objective: To describe the imaging findings of prostatic tumors nonadenocarcinoma on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging. Methods: A total of 200 patients underwented multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging of the prostate for screening for prostate cancer, from August 2013 to September 2014, followed by biopsy with ultrasound/magnetic resonance imaging fusion. Results: We found t...

Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty for the Treatment Of Synovial Chondromatosis: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Synovial chondromatosis affecting the glenohumeral joint is rare. Treatment primarily consists of arthroscopic loose body removal and synovectomy. Shoulder arthroplasty has been mentioned in the literature as a treatment option for patients with coexisting arthritis, although the results have been underreported. The case of an 84-year-old man with long standing synovial chondromatosis of the sh...
